Saving One Pug at a Time

Warning... graphic photos of dog abuse/neglect to follow in this post. At one time I was very active with Pug Rescue of Florida. Since being a full time nursing student I have not had the time to volunteer with them as I once did. You always hear people who donate their time or money for various causes saying that they feel as if they get more in return than they give. I can honestly say that I have experienced this feeling, a feeling that nothing else will give you. As sad as I am tonight thinking about this particular pug that was surrendered to us tonight. Sad that she has had to endure such inhuman abuse and neglect. A part of me is rejoicing that Pug Rescue is helping give her a second chance to see that life is good, that people can be kind.

The story we were given about this precious pug was that she was hit by a car a week ago crushing her left front leg. She was not given any medical treatment. No pain medication, no antibiotics, NOTHING! How could anyone be so cruel! I completely understand that not everyone can afford emergency medical treatment for their pets. For heavens sake though put your selfish feelings aside and take your pet somewhere and surrender them. They do not need to suffer just because you don't want to give them up. As a result of not getting the medical treatment she needed her leg has begun to rot off her body. Gangrene set in which has started to eat away at her leg. Leaving the bones of her paw visible for everyone to see. As the infection progressed it has spread up to her shoulder.

Graphic photos to follow....

With the help of Pug Rescue of Florida this little angel will live to see better days ahead. Tonight she underwent a leg amputation to save her life. The leg was left untreated to long to be saved at any level. This precious pug is a young female, maybe 1 or 2 years at the most. She will recover from this and live a happier life. Because of the severity of her injuries her surgery was not cheap. Pug Rescue of Florida has graciously stepped up to pay for her medical bills and help her find a new forever loving home.

If you can spare even a $1 or $2 PLEASE visit the web site for Pug Rescue of Florida www.pugrescueofflorida.org and donate to help cover her medical bills. Her original name is Dakota, that's what you'll see on the website. I've changed her name to Molly since then. I do not want her name to have any bad memories attached to it. With your donation Pug Rescue of Florida will be able to continue helping other pugs that need their help. Pug Rescue of Florida also known as PROoF, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.

I will be fostering this little angel once she is well enough to leave the hospital. Even though she no longer has her rotting leg, she is still at risk for becoming septic and very ill. Please keep her in your prayers as she recovers.

April,
Oh my gosh. WOW!! Her story is so sad. So, your going to keep her right now and then are you keeping her forever? People are just sick!! TJ and I will donate to her on June 5th. So, if I go on there web site, is there a place to donate to her. Please let me know. I just love that you do rescue. Wish I could do some rescue, but I would keep to many and TJ would freak.

Hi there,
Just read about little Dakota/Molly on Amanda's blog. I can't believe how horrible people can be. I hope it's ok that I posted about it on my blog with a link to this blog post. I also used the picture in your sidebar. Please let me know if this is not ok.
Take care,
Jessica & Clover

I found your blog through A Day In The Life Of Our Pugs. I was so horrified to see this and imagine the pain this poor girl went through. I'm so happy to see her updates and that she is doing so well! I hope she continues to improve at your house! I, too, have pugs...two and one of them came from Pug Rescue of Florida (I live in Panama City, Florida). Anyhow, my blog is set to private but if you'd like to view it I'll be more than happy to add you to my list if you'd send me your email address. My address is pagecole@bellsouth.net. Take care and be sure to update on Molly's progress!

Poor little Molly. Humans never fail to astound me in both the levels of abuse and also the levels of compassion they show to animals. I hope she can get over this ok. Bless you for helping her.

This is so terrible. I read Molly's story over at Clover's. We will go to the pug rescue site now. It just makes my stomach turn to see an animal that has endured such cruelty!
Purrs and purrayers for Molly's recovery.

April,

Molly is so lucky to have you as a mom. Sounds like, thanks to you, she'll have a long life filled with lots of love. It is horrible stories like Molly's that make me realize I shouldn't take the health of my pug puppy (Henry) for granted. I made a donation on Dakota's (Molly's) behalf. Even though my regional pug rescue is the Mid Atlantic one, I wanted to support the wonderful folks in Florida. Give Molly a scratch behind the ears from her friends in Virginia.

This story just breaks my heart! While $5.00 isn't a lot I hope that my donation combined with many others from Pug lovers everywhere makes the difference this little pug needs. I desperately hope that our love helps her get through this surgery and become healthy again!

This is just heartbreaking. The cruelty some people can perform just boggles my mind. I'm so glad Molly will be in your care while she heals. Will she be adopted out afterwards, or are you going to keep her? That was my family's problem doing pug fostering years ago; it was so hard to let go. We ended up keeping a few because no one else wanted them.

Anyway, I'm more than happy to donate some money. I'd love updates as well!
